Prep enrolments and transition opportunities
The Preparatory (Prep) year is the first year of school for your child. It is a full-time program that runs five days per week. Your child is expected to attend full-time in order to get the most from the Prep year.
Age is the only criterion for enrolment in the Prep year for Queensland children. Your child must be five by 30 June in the year they enrol in Prep. To find out when your child is eligible to enrol in the Prep year please follow this link:

Term 1
Peek at Prep — Monday 11th March — 9:00am–10:00am
Children can come with their parents to have a peek at a busy Prep classroom. Get involved with some hands-on activities, join the Preps in some learning or just have some fun exploring our Prep space. This gives parents and children the opportunity to watch Preppies and teachers at work. Come along and have all of your questions answered. Our Early Years Coordinator is available and happy to chat to you about our great school. No need to RSVP, come along on your own, with a friend or with your child.
Pre-Preps Teddy Bears Picnic — Tuesday 26th March — 1:30pm-2:30pm
Children come along with their parents and their favourite teddy or cuddly. Be immersed in some teddy bear fun while getting to know some other Prep children and their families.
RSVP required.
Term 2

Pre-Preps Open Day — Saturday 18th May — 9:00am–11:00am
A chance for you to come and find out all what Shailer Park State School has to offer. Saturday morning is the perfect time to relax and join in the fun atmosphere in our Prep area. Talk with our staff while your children can enjoy some hands on activities and a free sausage sizzle thanks to our P&C Association. Join a school tour to find out what makes Shailer Park State School the best school in Australia!
Under 8s Day — Friday 17th May — 8:30am–10:30am
A day celebrated by everyone who is under 8. Come and join our school community as we participate in everything that is great about being under 8! We usually have a theme so keep your eyes peeled for what is coming up. Always a morning to remember.
Term 3

Pre-Preps Tiny Tech Time — Thursday 1st August — 1:30pm–2:30pm
We invite our Pre-Preppies once again to get involved. This time we are exploring all things digital and design within technology. Children can explore an array of digital technology we use in our everyday learning. We then use our design skills to design a build a boat that we can float in our creek bed. This is one you don't want to miss! RSVP required.
Pre-Preps 'Welcome to Prep interviews' commence — 12th August
Once you have filled in your enrolment papers, we ask that you come in with your child to have a Welcome to Prep Interview. Interviews will begin mid-August. During this time, we will draw some pictures, play a game and read a story with your child while you have the opportunity to let us know everything that makes your child who they are. All of the information we gather will be shared directly with your Prep teacher so that they know a little bit more about your child before they begin their first day of school. There is most likely a great surprise for your child to take with them at the end of the interview.
Term 4
Prep Play Day — Friday 15th November — 9.00am–10.30am
With the year coming to a close, Prep has never felt closer! Ease those questions or nerves, bundle that energy and excitement and come along to our Prep Play Day. Parents and carers are kept in our hall for some finer details about Prep while the Pre-Preppies are taken for a morning of fun with the Prep teachers. This is definitely a must do to add to your calendar.
Pre-Preps meet the teacher — Tuesday 10th December — 1.30pm–2.30pm
A wonderful opportunity to come and meet your teacher for Prep and see where your classroom will be. A very casual afternoon, you and your child will know exactly where to go and who to meet ready for your first day of school.
