Instrumental Music program

Rationale

At Shailer Park State School we provide students with the opportunity to participate in a range of instrumental music programs. Students are learning in small group settings to become aware of, and sensitive to, the importance of music in their daily lives. Through ensemble playing the instrumental music program develops application, commitment, a sense of accomplishment and self worth, responsibility, self discipline and team spirit.

Students in Years 3 – 6 (2026) are eligible to learn a string instrument, and students in Years 4 – 6 (2026) can learn a band instrument such as flute, clarinet, trumpet or trombone.

Students will participate in a 30-minute small-group lesson each week during school time and, as their skills develop, have the opportunity to join one of our instrumental ensembles.

Choir program

At Shailer Park State School we provide opportunities to attend a choir program in Years P-3 and 4-6. Choir practices are held during lunch times. Students perform at various school and community events throughout the year.
